One Year Ago Today...

One year ago today, you sent me a text saying we had four hours together.

You picked me up and we drove to the beach for one last look before you left it forever. And me. You were leaving me.

We held hands as we strolled down the narrow streets. Facing the water and the unforeseen future. I leaned into your chest, your arms wrapped around my waist as you told me you’d miss me too.

One year ago today, I realized I didn’t want you to go.

We visited old friends and sipped beers. Shared dessert and flirty remarks. Staring endlessly into each other’s eyes. A smile that simply wouldn’t disappear.

One year ago today I was begging for more time so we made excuses for delaying the inevitable. “You don’t really need to leave now. Just one more hour.” “Your mom should probably rest at the hotel before they begin loading the truck.” “The sun will be setting in a couple hours. There’s really no point now. Just move tomorrow.”

And you did.

I hid a note in your car for you to find after you’d left. Left the city, left me. Stating simply “I miss you.”

One year ago today, we sat side by side at what would come to be our favorite restaurant discussing life and love and signs. The universes way of screaming we belonged together.

Over sips of Veuve and bites of Ahi we knew we couldn’t let this pass us by.

I said I’d wait if I had someone to wait for. You said “that’s why you’d be my girlfriend.” There were no words after that. Just a massive grin and a passionate kiss.

“We’re an item” you announced to friends and bartenders alike. I knew you were just as excited as me.

One year ago today we knew we were on to something. Something life changing and lifelong. Something crazy and beautiful and magical.

You left me the next morning but I followed you soon after. To a new city. A new life. To be with my soul mate.

One year ago today they said we’d never last and guess what, boo? We’ve proved them wrong once again.

Happy one year anniversary to the greatest man I’ve ever known. My love. My life. My soul mate. Here’s to one blissful year together…and many more to come.
