I Have a Confession to Make

I haven’t blogged in almost 2 weeks. And because of that I’m slowly losing followers and rapidly losing sleep.

Here’s the thing. It’s not that I don’t want to write (because I do) it’s that I feel have nothing to write about (because I honestly don’t).

(It’s called writer’s block for a reason, right?)

I feel like my voice and who I am as a writer is largely centered around the unfortunate circumstances that tend to plague my daily life and the sarcastic, sensationalized spin I put on it to make it more interesting. That’s who I am. That’s who I’ve always been.

But now things are different. Things are better and I’m happier. Oh yes, I could write about how wonderful life in the working world is, how great my relationship is going or how things are finally falling into place. But that’s not who I am. Sorry but I’m not Miss Musing. I’m not the perpetual optimist nor would I want to read something so generically positive.

So why do it? Why write?

I’m not sure where this is going but I need some advice. Should I stick around and write about life’s sudden perfection and strive to no longer be the sarcastic bitch I really am and just accept that things are wonderful? (Probably not.) Should I leave all together and be thankful for the experience? ( I don’t know.) Or do I take a time out and wait for clarity? (Which, coincidentally is what I’ve been doing in this interim and have yet to find any.)

I hope someone can shed some light on this because I’m so frustrated I’m about 2 seconds away from deleting this whole blog entirely. . .

HELP!

You should definitely write about the joy and happiness you are experiencing. It's not generic if it's true. You could always use your sarcasm and cynical wit to make fun of the world around you.

I agree with M.J.! :) But in the end, it is your decision.

I usually have a hard time writing when things are good too. . . if there's not something "crazy" or "awful" or "scandalous" going on, what do I REALLY have to say?!

Maybe we should BOTH make an effort to write about our joys and our men and our slightly annoying "I'm in love" smiles! :-)

If you want to, we can exchange interview questions. . . about, say, our men and all the positives in our lives. . .

I rarely write about my life, so maybe try writing about other things. TV, news, something you saw, etc.

Or write about the happy. Nobody will hold it against you that things are "falling into place." Plus, you have to have something to say... You just moved to a completely new city. What do you think of it? What are people like? Is there anything drastically different? What do you miss about where you were living? I'm sure you'll think of something.

I don't think you should give it up completey yet. Just write what comes to mind when it comes to mind. It can be happy or sarcastic. We'll still read! :)

Aw hun, having nothing to write about because your life is AMAZING is certainly nothing to be ashamed of! Ultimately the decision is up to you, but I have to say DON'T delete your blog! Just take a break, and let things chill out for a while. Remember I ditched the blogosphere for over a month back in December! When the time comes and you find that there's something you'd like to write about, you'll write. Until then, enjoy living your life. Lord knows we all don't go very long before something funny comes up that is totally blog worthy. And don't worry about your readers, they come and go like anything else. When you do come back, I'll still be around! :) Love!

write about being happy, it's a part of who you are too

i think you should write about things that you want to write about - good or bad. if you'd prefer to be sarcastic, you could always comment about ridiculous celebrity stories. the fact that we pay so much attention to that stuff is kind of gross anyhow! :)

Hey sista! The good thing about a blog, even if you leave it for awhile - you can always come back. Plus you can write about whatever the heck you want! So fill us in whenever you want about whatever you want! Don't worry about anything else. Have a good week!

I would just take a break from blogging. Everytime I feel frustrated like you are now, I simply tell myself, close the laptop, put it down, no more blogging for a few days... and then in an hour I have a major idea. Good luck :)

No need to delete. Obviously it's up to you what you do or don't write. BUT, your blog will be loved just the same if you tell about daily happenings, happy times, and whatever else is going on. No worries, nothin' to stress about =)

I stopped writing for a week once and lost followers also. It sucks. Write about things that you are into at the moment or what excites you. It's so hard sometimes, but you gotta keep writing. I love reading your blog, so don't stop! :)

Nooooo, don't delete! Wait til you feel the writing urge come back and then write something fantastically sarcastic as you do so well!

I totally feel you lady! I feel as if my best writing comes when I'm totally down in the dumps and I'm lamenting about the woes in my life and then when things are great, I suddenly have nothing to write about. Do you suppose we use writing as a way to vent? If that's the case then do the opposite and share the happiness that you are experiencing....easier said than done, but pls. don't delete your blog. I love stopping by and hearing of your adventures. Good Luck!

When I gave up blogging for everyone else, I started enjoying blogging more. I know I've switched sites so much, but coming out under my real name has made things so much easier and it makes me really think before I post something on the Internet. Just saying...

It's amazingly awesome that everything is falling into place and life is grand for you. I'm really really happy. BUT I will be really really sad if I don't get to read your blog anymore! Things will always happen in life for you to be sarcastic about; like the old lady in front of you in the check out line that pays in pennies, or the douche that cuts in front of you in line, or having the most awful service ever at a restaurant/bar. You can make anything funny because you have that talent. You choose to make light of what are normally really aggravating situations and make us all laugh about it because we know you're saying what we're all thinking. If you need to take a break, that's fine. Just please don't go away forever :( I'd never unfollow you!! Much love <3

Write about whatever you want to write about girl whether it be the good or the bad. There's no shame in writing about the positive in your life but if your not comfortable with it then don't do it.
I hope you stick around cause I really love your blog but do what makes you comfortable! : )

First off, my vote is that you stay! You are one of my favorite blogs!
Still, I know what you mean. My first couple of years of college I kept a blog on my Myspace page. I was less than happy, had nothing but drama in the love life dept, felt confused, etc. I wrote some Great blogs. Sarcastic stuff, introspective (is that a word) stuff, and lots of positive comments.
When the hubs came along and I finally picked a major and things got good, my writing suffered. It's still not the greatness that is used to be. But I still blog and a few people still read it!
I saw a secret posted on the PostSecret blog once that said "I sabatoge all of my relationships b/c it makes me a better musician" Tortured artists I guess.

Why write for followers, commenters, and strangers? Write for yourself - and if that includes a break - well then, that's just fine! :)

Being happy is not generic. You can always add sarcasm to your delight. Plus, I just started reading your blog and I like it and Id be kind of pissed if you stopped writing.

First time reader here...nice to meet ya!...anyway, I somehow think there is something wrong with me if I can't churn out 4 or 5 blogs a week... I usually have things to say, but sometimes, my brain says "Fuck you" and takes a walk out the "door", and my body turns to a big lump of mashed potatoes, and I am therefore devoid of thoughts or senses for a few days...then my brain eventually stumbles back home after running a few drinks through his central core...we kiss and make up, and fresh new blogs materialize...
So my advice is...let your brain take a walk sometimes..it's OK to do that...don't feel like there is something wrong...

Hey another first time reader. But I would say write about the happy things! If you did something amazing or had a great experience, share it :)
